Krishi  Vigyan Kendra, pokharni, Nanded (Ms)

          The Indian Council of agricultural research, New Delhi had sanctioned Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Nanded Pokharni to Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Education Science and Technological Research Trust, (JNIESTR), Nanded vide sanction order No. F1 (2)/92/PI & M Parl III dated 12th Sept. 1993. Being a host organization, JNIESTR, Nanded is providing administrative support and technology backstopping to KVK since 21 years. The KVK, Pokharni is fully functioned to conduct training programme, vocational training programmes for self employment of people and demonstrate the flagship technologies in agricultural and allied science in Nanded district.

          The district comprises 16 Tahsils but KVK is being working under 8 Taluka mainly comprises Nanded. Mudkhed, Hadgaon, Himayatnagar, Kinwat, Mahur, Bhokar, Ardhapur. Nanded is located at 18 degree 30 North latitude and 77 degree 10’ east longitude at about 489 meters above mean sea level. It is about 260 Km each from Aurangabad and Hyderabad and about 300 Km from Nagpur. It is regionally linked by road to their urban areas by major state highways  6 to Degloor in South, east towards Hyderabad, MSH-2 to Bhokar in the north east and Latur in the South east, MSH-3 Hadgaon. In terms of railway connectivity Nanded is a part of the South Central Railway division of the Indian Railway. It lies on Mumbai-Secunderabad line. Climate of city is generally dry except during South West monsoon season that sets in the first week of June and last about 2.5 – 3 months. The average annual rainfall in the city is about 901 mm and temperature range is between 46 to 18 degree c. District has fertile black cotton soil as in the rest of Godavari valley.

          The major crops grown are Cotton, Jowar, Soybean, Red gram, Green gram, Black gram, Sugarcan. During Kharif Wheat, Bengal gram, Safflower, Rabi Jowar in Rabi season. While in Summer Ground nut and sown vegetables are grown by irrigated farmers. Further, in district Horticultural crops such as Banana, Citrus, Mango, Chikoo, Turmeric, grown. Floriculture, Dairy, Sericulture, Goat rearing are the main pillars of secondary agriculture in the district.
